Name: King Shōryū of En, otherwise known as Naotaka or Fuukan.
Age: Over 500. Looks to be in his mid-twenties. Immortal god-king and all.

Personality:

Shōryū is a man of many layers. On the surface, he's a lazy, smart-mouthed guy who somehow ended up as god-king of a country and spends all of his time trying to avoid acting like it. An amiable guy, friendly and relaxed, but predominantly lazy. Prone to spending his time in bars and brothels, gambling and carousing rather than ruling his country. If you peeled away that layer, you'd get someone who's honestly kind of a jerkass. A man who creates insulting nicknames for his closest friends, who ignores the entreaties of his advisors, who doesn't keep his promises. Keep peeling, and the next ten layers are exactly the same.

The man is a terrific actor.

The twelfth layer is a man who claims he is truly greedy, a man who cannot and will not accept the needless deaths of his subjects because they are as much a part of him as his arm or leg. A man who already lost everything he owned. His family, his people, his country, and almost his life. A king without a country is just a fool, and Shōryū without En just so. A ruler unable to distance himself from the people he rules, who invites the adage of familiarity breeding contempt because being seen as a fool makes it so much easier to make his moves in the background. A mastermind. Those who know him are wary of him. Those who don't underestimate him. He seems incompetent and uncaring, but then how has his kingdom, so linked to his success as a ruler, flourished for five hundred years? If his kirin, benevolent and wise, insults him so often, how has the holy creature not been stricken with illness from the failings of his king?

Shōryū is a good king. A brilliant one. And this is because he knows how to use the people of his kingdom, how to get to know them, their strengths and weaknesses, their likes and dislikes, and use that to create a country in which they can thrive. Outsiders are accepted in the kingdom of En. Citizens eat well, live well. He doesn't need to be in court, because he's found loyal, competent ministers to run it for him. The people of his kingdom are his eyes and ears, and he gives them no cause to complain. His kirin has been with him for five hundred years, after rescuing him from death in Hourai, and their relationship is rich, complex and entirely based on mutual trust and trolling in equal measures.

He's rarely angry, and then only if someone harms his people. Anger is an outburst, a short-lived reaction; he's much more likely to laugh. Intensely social, he'll mingle and talk with anyone. Not just for information, but to get to know those around him. Formality doesn't suit him, but he can wear it like a comfortable coat if he needs to.

Simply put, Shōryū is the Ever-King of En, and will be for as long as it benefits the people.
